A public administration statement on Wednesday said his contract had been extended for a third time.

Suhrab was brought out of retirement to be appointed, on a contract basis, as the envoy to Islamabad, on Apr 27, 2010.

His term was extended twice before, once on May 20, 2012 and again on May 11, 2014.

A civil service officer of the 1973 batch, Hossain served as Bangladeshi envoy to Uzbekistan, Thailand and Canada during his diplomatic career, foreign ministry sources say.

He also worked at Bangladeshi missions in the UK, Senegal and France in different capacities.

Hossain, father of three children, had his post-graduate degree in biochemistry from Dhaka University.
