Rain and wind due to westerly low

It has been raining in Dhaka along with other parts of Bangladesh due to a westerly low over the West Bengal and adjoining areas.

Kolkata also experienced heavy rains in the morning but the sky brightened up later. 


The Met Office has recorded 4 mm of rain in Khepuparha and 2 mm in Patuakhali and Jessore on Wednesday morning.

Mymensingh, Faridpur, Maijdicourt, Rajshahi, Khulna, Chuadanga have also received showers.


It will continue to rain, accompanied by temporary gusty wind, in parts of Dhaka, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Sylhet and Chittagong Divisions on Thursday, according to forecast. 

Abdur Rahman, senior meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, said the end of spring is usually marked by light rain. 

“The westerly is causing this light rain. It might rain throughout today and will continue to rain in Chittagong and Barisal with some interruptions on Thursday. We might see sunny weather again on Friday.”   

The end of March may be marked by storms and rain, he said. The Met Office said two or three storms called Nor’westers, better known as Kalbaishakhi, may sweep across parts of the country at the end of March. 

A light heat wave has been forecasted for Bangladesh’s north-western region and also a depression that may loom over the Bay of Bengal at the end of March.

Temperatures will climb from 34 degrees Celsius to 36 degrees Celsius during the heat wave, it said.  

Many areas of north India are getting spring rain and agriculture experts in India say this is not good for farmers.
