4 blockade supporters nabbed after attacking police in Lakshmipur

Police have nabbed four blockade supporters after they blocked the highway with a log, hurled bombs and fired at a police patrol in Lakshmipur.

Police fired back and injured two activists.

Those hit by bullets were Jamaat activist Main Uddin, 38 and Juba Dal activist Arif Hossain, 25, said police.

Lakshmipur’s Kamalnagar Police Station’s ASI Rejaul Karim said the incident occurred on the Ramgati-Lakshmipur highway near Lawrence Berar Goj area late Sunday night.

ASI Rejaul told the reporters the activists had blocked the highway with a log.

Seeing the patrol, they began to hurl petrol bombs and crude bombs and fire at them.

“Police fired back injuring two. Two more were arrested, while the rest managed to flee.”

The other two had been admitted to the Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital.

Four petrol bombs and a chainsaw used for cutting trees were recovered from them, he added.

Three police officials including Kamalnagar Police Station’s OC Kabir Ahmed had been injured and were given first aid, said ASI Rejaul.
