The body was taken around noon on Sunday to the footpath next to the Suhrawardy Udyan opposite the Milan Chattor, where he was brutally hacked.

The people held a demonstration at the spot over the death of the Bangladeshi-American bioengineer.

They chanted slogans demanding immediate arrest and speedy trial of the killers.

At the end of the agitation lasting for about half an hour, the body was taken to his father Ajay Roy’s house at Siddheshwary.

Finally, it was taken to the DMCH mortuary, as his family decided to donate it for medical research after his wish.

People paid their tributes to the slain writer-blogger while his remains were kept on a platform in front of the Aparajyeo Bangla at Dhaka University around 10:45am.

Sammilito Sangskritik Jote organised the programme as a mark of respect to the writer, noted for his works against communalism.

Avijit and his wife and fellow blogger Rafida Ahmed Bonya were hacked on the footpath next to the Suhrawardy Udyan, a few metres away from the tightly secured Amar Ekushey Book Fair and Shahbagh Police Station on Feb 26.

He died at the DMCH, while his badly injured wife is being treated at the Square Hospital.
