The acts of arson were committed almost simultaneously at Jatrabarhi and Gulistan a little after 9am on Sunday.

No casualties were reported.

Jatrabarhi police Sub-Inspector Imranul Islam said the miscreants torched a Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) bus in Rayerbagh area.

But the passengers managed to get off safely, he added.

A Nagar Paribahan bus was set ablaze at Gulistan’s Fulbarhia terminal.

Paltan police chief Morshed Alam suspected the miscreants were travelling in the bus posing as passengers.

Fire Service control room official Nilufar Yasmin said two fire-fighting units doused the flames.

Along with its blockade since Jan 5, the BNP-Jamaat coalition called a 72-hour shutdown, starting from 6am, Sunday.

Six vehicles were torched on the eve of the shutdown.
