One of them, a transport worker, had suffered burns last week in Narayanganj’s Rupganj Upazila. The other man was injured in a similar attack in the same Upazila on Friday night.

Mohammad Shakil, 18, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon while Kabir Hossain, 30, died earlier in the day.

Both were being treated at the burns unit at the DMCH.

The hospital’s police outpost Inspector Mozammel Haque said doctors pronounced Shakil dead around 3:45pm.

He had sustained 50 percent burns early on Feb 25 when blockade supporters torched the bus he was sleeping in at Rupganj’s Bhulta.

Another transport worker Yasin, who had also received 17 percent burns in that fire, is still undergoing treatment, said Haque.

On the other hand, Kabir Hossain was one of the six people who were injured in a petrol bomb attack on a truck at Rupganj’s Jatramura around 10:15pm Friday night.

Doctors said his burn injuries were less severe than the other victims, but his head injury proved to be fatal.

He had received that injury while jumping off the burning truck during the attack, Narayanganj’s Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mohammad Zakaria said.

One of the burnt victims, truck driver Rubel Mia, told reporters that the attackers had hurled several petrol bombs when they were on their way to Dhaka’s Postogola.

The ASP said at least 10 people, all of them workers of a spinning mill at Rupganj, were sitting at the back of the truck with some machinery when the attack took place.

The BNP and its allies are enforcing a violent nationwide transport blockade since Jan 5 and a series of shutdowns since the beginning of February demanding a snap election under a ‘neutral’ administration.

So far, more than 100 people have been killed and a few hundred others injured, most of them in firebomb attacks on public vehicles.
