Bangladesh Resident Representative of the FES, also known as German Political Foundation, Henrik Maihack handed over the invitation letter on behalf of his Chairman Kurt Beck to the minister when he paid a courtesy call on Thursday at the minister’s office.

The foreign ministry said the minister welcomed the opening of the FES office in Dhaka in 2014.

He also encouraged them “to continue its valuable work, contributing to Bangladesh’s socio-economic development and wider regional cooperation”.

The FES was founded in 1925 and is named after Germany’s first democratically elected President, Friedrich Ebert.

It works for the advancement of both socio-political and economic development in the spirit of social democracy, through civic education, research, and international cooperation.

It has currently 107 offices across the world.

In South Asia for the past decades it has been supporting building consensus on various issues of regional cooperation with a wide range of stakeholders.

The Resident Representative discussed with the minister areas and ways of deepening cooperation and interaction between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the FES.

He thanked the minister for the “exceptional” support and encouragement that the FES received during its office opening in Dhaka.

He expressed his hope that with its fully operational office in Bangladesh, the FES would strengthen its engagement with Bangladesh further.
