Warrants out for 3 Kishoreganj ‘war criminals’

The International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants for three in Kishoreganj for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.

The first war crimes tribunal led by Justice M Enayetur Rahim issued the warrants on Sunday based on a prosecution plea.

The three accused are Kishoreganj ‘Rajakar Commander’ Gazi Abdul Mannan, Hafiz Uddin and Azharul Islam.

Sultan Mahmud Simon stood for the prosecution in the hearing.

“We found in our preliminary investigation the involvement of the three in killings, looting, arson and torture during the Liberation War. So we have sought their arrest.

“The court heard the plea and issued the warrants.”

Meanwhile, the findings of the war crimes investigation against Shamsuddin Ahmed and his brother Nasir Uddin Ahmed aka Captain ATM Nasir of Kishoreganj’s Karimganj were submitted to the tribunal on Nov 26.

Shamsuddin was arrested the next day, but Nasir fled. They are accused of five crimes including killing, torture and genocide.
