Five Jamaat men, including two district chiefs held on charges of plotting violence
Police have arrested five leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, including chiefs of two district units, on charges of planning sabotage.

They were arrested from Shyampur in Dhaka while holding a ‘secret meeting’ on Saturday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Assistant Commissioner Iftekharul Islam said.
The arrested Jamaat leaders are its Munshiganj district unit chief Fazlul Karim, Narayanganj district unit chief Maminul Haque, Munshiganj unit assistant Secretary Abdul Malek, Bangladesh Islami Institute General Manager Golam Mostafa and Chetana Private Limited Director Abdul Kuddus.
The police officer said the law enforcers conducted a raid following a tip off.
At least 60 people have been killed in violence during the nonstop blockade being enforced by Jamaat’s ally BNP since Jan 5.
Most of those held on charges of violence during the programme are from Jamaat and its students affiliate Islami Chhatra Shibir.
