Anarchists burn down four buses in Dhaka amid shutdown, blockade

Miscreants have set fire to a garage burning down two buses in Dhaka amid the BNP-led coalition’s simultaneous general strike and blockade throughout Bangladesh.

Two other buses were also set ablaze on Sunday with no reported casualties.

Arson attacks have become more frequent since BNP chief Khaleda Zia called the blockade on Jan 5. Over 40 people have died in blockade violence, mostly in arson attacks.

Suspected blockade campaigners torched the first bus in New Market around evening. The other one was set on fire in front of the judge’s court area in old Dhaka.

Around the same time, two buses in a garage were set afire at Motijheel, a witness said.

Fire service official Brajen Das told bdnews24.com they had dispatched five fire-fighting units to douse the flames.

The buses had been completely destroyed, the witnesses said.
