32 BNP-Jamaat activists arrested

Police have arrested 32 leaders and activists of BNP-Jamaat-e-Islami alliance for alleged involvement with violence in the capital.

Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman said after conducting a special raid in different places of the capital , police arrested 32 activists until Sunday morning.

Four of the arrested are BNP activists, Mosharraf Hossain, Abdul Baten Noki, Jahangir Sardar and Ainul Haque.

Police have accused the activists to be involved in vandalism, arson and violence during BNP-sponsored general strike and blockade.

Since the blockade called by BNP-led alliance on Jan 5 the country has experienced various kinds of violence unleashed by the blockade supporters. So far forty lives have been lost in this violence, of which most died from injuries by petrol bomb explosion.

By conducting raid in different places, police have arrested 24 BNP-Jamaat activists on Friday. On Wednesday 22 people and on Tuesday another 31 people have been arrested from different areas in Dhaka.
