Two separate explosions also left four others injured in the capital on Friday.

Fire Service Control Room official Brajen Kumar Sarkar said miscreants set fire to a passenger bus at night near the Khilgaon flyover police outpost, leaving four injured.

The victims are Jamal Uddin, 55, Belayet Hossain, 30, Raju Ahmed, 20, and 'Jibon'. They are being treated at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, two explosions in Mirpur at around 9pm injured four men -- Muneer Ahmed, 42, Mohammad Jibon, 30, Tapan Roy, 28, and Abu Bashar, 45.

Earlier in the day, two buses were set afire at Tantibazar and Kaptanbazar but there were no casualties.

At least 40 people have been killed in blockade violence, mostly in arson attacks, since BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia announced the programme on Jan 5.

Police have accused her in two cases for ‘instigating violence' but the former prime minister is adamant about continuing the violent agitation.

As incidents of violence continued to rise, Prime Minister Shiekh Hasina recently ordered police to tackle violence ‘at any cost’.
