Crash kills 4 in Jhenaidah

Four people have died and four have been injured in a collision between a truck and a passenger vehicle in Jhenaidah’s Shailakupa Upazila.

Shailakupa Police Station OC Hashem Khan said the accident took place in front of the Upazila’s Dudhsar Asrayan Prakalpa on Khulna-Kushtia highway around 5am on Friday.

The condition of three of the injured was critical, he said.

The dead were identified as Majibar Mondal, 40, Shafiuddin, 45, Rezaul Islam, 30, and Amirul Islam, 30.

All of the victims were betel leaf traders.

A speeding truck slammed into the ‘tempo’, an indigenous three-wheeler, from behind at Dudhsar area around 5am, said the OC.

The four died on the spot. Locals rushed the others to the Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital.

Three of them were later shifted to the Faridpur Medical College and Hospital in a critical state, OC Khan added.

Police identified two of the injured as ‘Alamgir’ and ‘Nurul Islam’.

The truck driver fled with the vehicle. The bodies were kept at the Shailakupa Police Station.
