Another local BNP leader's garage was also set ablaze in the Wednesday midnight attacks that continued for around two hours.

However, no casualties have been reported so far.

Uposhohor Police outpost’s Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Shiraj said they visited the spot after hearing a loud explosion.

Jessore's Assistant Superintendent of Police Reshma Sharmin and Kotwali Police Station’s OC Inamul Haq, however, said no complaints were filed over the incidents and that they were not aware of any bomb attack on the houses of BNP leaders.

Tariqul’s wife Nargis Begum said they heard loud bangs of two consecutive explosions after midnight.

Later she found splinters and fragments of the bomb, wrapped in red tape, scattered around in front of the house. At that time Tariqul Islam was not at home.

Afterwards, around 1:45am, bombs were hurled at the houses of district BNP’s Secretary General Syed Saberul Haque Sabu, district unit’s Vice-President Golam Reza Dulu and Organising Secretary Delawar Hossain Khokon.

District BNP Assistant Secretary Mijanur Rahman’s auto-rickshaw garage was also set on fire by the miscreants at that time.

ASI Shiraj told bdnews24.com, “After hearing the sound of explosion we rushed to the house but it was locked from inside. So we could not enter.”

Later Sabu informed about the bomb attacks on the residents of Golam Reza Dulu and Delawar Hossain Khokon.

Mijanur Rahman’s brother Fazlur Rahman informed about the arson in auto rickshaw garage.

He told bdnews24.com, “They saw the garage on fire around 1:45am after locals raised an alarm.”

Locals also helped in promptly putting out the fire before it could cause any major damage.

Police earlier filed a case against these five BNP leaders on charges of committing vandalism and arson in different areas of the district.
