Convoy under attack

Student leaders and activists of the Jamaat-e-Islami have attacked a convoy of vehicles near Shonamasjid area on the last day of the 36-hour general strike.

Chapainawabganj Sadar Police Station’s OC JasimUddin said the incident occurred in a procession near Chapainawabganj’s Shanti road around 9:30 am Monday.

Islami Chhatra Shibir activists were marching toward Shanti intersection to join a rally, witnesses told bdnews24.com.

At that time, trucks loaded with goods was on its way towards the Shonamasjid area with police and BGB escorts.

There were no cars in between the convoy of trucks and law enforcement agencies.

Those in the procession, hurled bricks at the convoy of 30-40 trucks and also lobbed several crude bombs. Seven to eight trucks were vandalised during the attack.

No casualties have been reported. The attackers fled when police turned up.
