22 nabbed from Dhaka

Dhaka Metropolitan Police have arrested 22 activists of the BNP and its ally Jamaat-e-Islami during a ‘special drive’ in the capital.

They have been involved in vandalism and arson during the BNP-led alliance’s shutdown and ongoing transport blockade, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman on Monday.

Twenty among them are members of the BNP and two are from Jamaat’s student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir.

They were arrested from Bangshal, Lalbagh, Motijheel, Paltan, Demra, Jatrabarhi, Shyampur, Terjgaon, Rupnagar, Pallabi, Bhashantek, Banani, Badda , Bhatara and east of Uttara in the 24 hours before Monday, he said.

Meanwhile, police have also announced cash rewards for citizens who help catch or provide information on miscreants involved in causing or planning violence during shutdowns and blockades.
