The 45-year old youngest son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia died of heart failure while on his way to a hospital at Kuala Lumpur Saturday noon.

Coco’s Janaza was held at ‘Masjid Negara’ after midday prayers, Badlur Rahman, BNP’s expatriate leader in Malaysia, told bdnews24.com.

Khaleda's younger brother Shamim Eskander flew to Malaysia Saturday night to bring back the body of his nephew. He was present in the funeral along with the BNP chief’s advisor Mosaddek Ali Falu.

BNP activists and Bangladeshi expatriates residing in Penang, Putra Jaya, Genting Highlands, Cameron Island, Bukit Bintang and other areas of Malaysia took part in the prayers and placed floral wreath on Coco’s coffin.

His body was then taken to the mortuary at the University of Malaya.

Convicted of laundering millions of taka to Singapore while his mother was prime minister, Coco was carrying a six-year sentence on his head.

He has been living in a rented house at the Malaysian capital with his wife and two daughters, after they moved there from Bangkok in 2011.

He was arrested along with his mother in 2007 during the emergency rule. He went to Thailand for treatment next year after the military-run caretaker government released him on parole.
