After the clash on Saturday houses of 60 to 70 tribespeople houses were vandalized and looted at the Upazila’s Habibpur, said bdnews24.com correspondent Morshedur Rahman from the spot.

Police reported death of two persons earlier but only one death has been confirmed so far.

Dinajpur police Inspector Abdur Razzak said a person, ‘Sohag’, died after being pierced by an arrow in the clash.

Parbatipur police OC Mahmudul Hauqe earlier said Sohag and his father Md Jahurul had died in the clash.

Wounded by an arrow, Jahurul was brought to the Dinajpur Medical College and Hospital in an unconscious state, said medical outpost police Sub-inspector Towhidur Rahman.

Jahurul was struck by arrows in his neck and back, he said.

The OC said 17 persons were detained over the clash in a raid on the Santal locality.

The locals said Jahurul had a feud with the Santals over 19 acres of land in the area for a long time.

The clash erupted when Jahurul and his men went to the land around 10:30am in the morning.

Both communities were armed with bows, arrows and locally-made sharp weapons.
