President Hamid off to Saudi Arabia to condole Abdullah's death

President Md Abdul Hamid has flown off to Saudi Arabia to join the official mourning of its late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.

He will formally express the Bangladesh government's deep sense of loss to the Saudi royals.

The president took to Saudi Arabia in a special flight of Bangladesh Biman at 11am on Saturday, his Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, Diplomatic Corps Dean, charge d’affairs at the Saudi embassy, cabinet secretary, chiefs of the three forces, inspector general of police and the foreign secretary were present at the airport to say goodbye to the president.

Foreign Minister Abul Hassan Mahmud Ali is accompanying the president.

Abdullah, who ruled the world's biggest crude oil exporting nation for nearly a decade, died early on Friday.

Bangladesh announced plans to mourn Abdullah's demise on Saturday. Special prayers have been arranged for the late king.

President Hamid is scheduled to return on Sunday.
