Four more passengers were injured while trying to get out of the vehicle in panic around 1am Wednesday, during the BNP’s nationwide blockade.

The ‘Abdullah Paribahan’ bus was going to Kuwakata from Dhaka. It was crossing the Nalchiti Upazila’s Bhairabad Bridge when it came under attack, said Barisal Kotwali Model Police Station SI Golam Kabir.

“The miscreants threw three petrol bombs at the bus. A woman has been burnt and several more injured,” he said, quoting witnesses.

Reshma Begum, 30, and the others were taken to the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College and Hospital, the policeman said, but could not provide more details.

The fire from the bombs gutted the entire vehicle before fire fighters could reach the spot, said Fire Service official Md Alauddin.

Vehicles were being attacked daily ever since BNP chief Khaleda Zia announced a countrywide transport blockade from Jan 5.

The violence has left at least 27 people dead, says the government.
