No one has been hurt in the explosion.

The blast occurred around noon on Tuesday, in an open space between the departments of History and Mass Communication, said Nilkhet Police Outpost SI Waheduzzaman.

The university staff found an unexploded hand-made bomb lying near the explosion spot when they rushed there.

Dhaka University Acting Proctor Amzad Hossain said, "It looks like the bombs have been dropped in the open space from the upper floors. It has been done to destabilise the university."

There were no classes held in that part of the university, though it remains open.

Earlier, on Jan 13, four improvised bombs were found in a toilet of the Arts Faculty building during the university's convocation ceremony.

The bombs were found in the toilet of the Political Science department on the first floor of the same building.
