Shamsunnahar Jhorna, 37, taught at Dhaka's Tawhid Laboratory School.

She died after being hit in the head by a stone hurled by strikers on Monday morning.

"We are deeply saddened and angered at the tragic incident," Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said.

Jhorna was going to Noakhali with her husband and two sons when their vehicle came under attack at Maijdi.

Nahid said no-one was safe during strikes.

"Shutdowns go against the nation's interest and harm educational activities," he said.

"A teacher has been killed in the name of a general strike. There are no words to protest and condemn the incident," the minister added.
