The crossings had been halted around 10pm Friday to prevent accidents because of poor visibility.

Shafiqul Islam, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) manager at the Daulatdia dock, told bdnews24.com that services resumed around 5am Saturday after the fog had cleared.

Several ferries, anchored in mid-river, resumed journey as conditions improved.

Hundreds of cars had been stuck on either side of the pier while passengers suffered in the biting cold.

But the crossings were now progressing in full swing, said Shafiqul.
