Mohanpur Police OC Abdul Hamid said the body was found in a field in Dyeing Para-Berabari on Friday morning.

The victim, identified as Fazle Hossain Rabbi, 10, had appeared for the yearly exam of Class III.

"His decapitated body was buried under the irrigation conduit. The head was found a little further away, while a hand still remains missing," the OC said.

The body was located after the confession of one of the five persons detained in connection with the incident, said the police officer.

Three of the detained are 'Aminul', 30, 'Shahabuddin', 28, and Jahangir Hossain, 28. Police did not reveal the names of the other two.

Rabbi was missing since Dec 20. Two days later, Aminul contacted Rabbi's father, Ali Hossain, and demanded Tk 1,000,000 as ransom, said OC Hamid.

Ali Hossain informed the police of the abduction. Police detained Aminul, Shahabuddin and Jahangir on Wednesday.

Aminul's confession led to the recovery of the body. Police detained the other two right after the body was found.

They are being interrogated, OC Hamid said.
