Cold to bite for 3 more days

The cold wave that is biting the southwest region may sweep other areas and last for three more days, according to the Met office.

Meteorologists said the mercury dipped on Friday amid north wind and thick fog.

They said cold wave might turn more severe with temperature dropping to 6-8 degrees Celsius.

They said the mercury would rise gradually if there was rain.

Met office’s Senior Meteorologist Sanaul Haq told bdnews24.com on Friday: “Moderate cold wave is sweeping Pabna, Jessore and Kushtia regions. The cold wave may continue for three more days.”

He said the entire country might be covered by medium to dense fog from Friday midnight to Saturday morning.

Met office recorded the lowest temperature at 9.4 degrees Celsius in Jessore on Friday. The temperature was 10-14 degree Celsius in other regions.

Haq said there might be rain during Dec 29-Jan 4 period when the temperature might increase.

Met office said a ‘normal depression’ was prevailing in the Bay.

It had earlier forecast 8-10 millimetres rain in December. After the rain, the cold might be acute, it said.

In the long-term forecast, Met office said 98 percent less rain took place in December than in November.

According to the Met office, several spells of cold wave may sweep across the country in January.
