Role of migrants discussed
Bangladesh Consulate General in New York has discussed the role of migrants as it observed the International Migrants Day on Wednesday.

The theme of the discussion was on “safe migration”.
Bangladesh has a particular interest in safe migration as millions of Bangladeshis work abroad and their remittances are the second biggest source of foreign exchange for the country.
Dhaka has won a bid recently to host the meeting of the Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) in 2016.
The Consulate General says Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to UN Ambassador AK Abdul Momen was present as chief guest at the discussion.
He described the importance of the Day in the context of the global movement of people.
He highlighted the role of the present government “in protecting the interests of the migrants and the would-be migrants of Bangladesh”.
Consul General Md Shameem Ahsan chaired the discussion.
