Hasina in a message wrote to Abe that the victory bore the testimony “to the dedicated services you have rendered to your country over the years”.

“It is also a reflection of the trust and confidence that the people of Japan have reposed on your dynamic and visionary leadership,” read the message foreign ministry released on Thursday.

Abe last month, just two years after he returned to power, dissolved parliament's lower house for a snap election on Dec 14, seeking a fresh mandate for his struggling “Abenomics” revival strategy.

“We are confident that under your able stewardship Japan will continue to prosper and play a constructive role in global affairs,” Hasina wrote.

She further stated that that she was “certain” that under Abe’s “wise” leadership the existing bilateral relations between the two countries would be “strengthened and broadened” further.
