Tangail road crash death toll rises to 10

The death toll from a head-on collision between a truck and a passenger vehicle in Tangail's Madhupur has risen to 10.

The accident took place around 12:15pm on Wednesday in the Upazila’s Ashura, said Madhupur Police Sub Inspector Alamgir Hossain.

The victims were identified as Habibur Rahman, 50, his daughters ‘Hena’, 28, and ‘Ayesha’, 12, Firoza Begum, 50, her grandson 'Sadik', 4, Asr Ali, 40, Majibar Rahman, 55, Abdul Kader, 65, 'Shafi', 7, and 'Esha'.

A Madhupur-bound truck slammed into the vehicle that rushed in from the other side.

The crash killed one on the spot while eight others succumbed to their injuries on their way to the hospital and one died while undergoing treatment, the police officer added.

Two injured are undergoing treatment at the Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital.

The Kotwali Police OC Fazlul Karim said Safi and Esha died after they were taken to the hospital.

Earlier, a passenger bus had fallen into a ditch, killing 10 people in Jhalakathi on Tuesday. Twenty-two others were injured in that accident.
