Detectives police say the two were involved in transnational terrorist activities.

The arrestees are Md Saidur Rahman, 48, and Md Abul Salek, 25.

Salek is the younger brother of Tariqul Islam Suman, the militant wanted in the Burdwan blast case in West Bengal.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman said they arrested the two at Saat Masjid Road on Tuesday night.

Some bomb-making manuals were also recovered from them.

“Since the Burdwan blast, detective police have been carrying out operations in various places sharing information about transnational terrorist activities with Indian intelligence agencies. The arrest was part of that ongoing operation,” Rahman said.

During preliminary interrogation, Saidur reportedly revealed to police that he had been associated with the JMB activities since 2001.

The deputy commissioner said apart from helping the Burdwan blast accused to cross over into India, Saidur was also coordinating the terrorist activities in two countries.

Salek used to help the wives and children of the absconding JMB militants to cross Indo-Bangladesh border, police said.

A case was filed against the two at Dhanmondi Police Station, Rahman added.

Security agencies of the two countries started working together sharing intelligence inputs after JMB involvement in the October 2 Burdwan blast came to light.
