She gave the instruction during a video conference on Monday with divisional commissioners of Rangpur and Barisal and deputy commissioners of Barguna and Lalmonirhat after the regular Cabinet meeting.

Referring to a local Awami League leader's murder in Rangpur last month, Hasina said: "Law and order situation has to improve at all cost. Stern measures have to be taken against those involved in terror and drug smuggling.

“We want our people to live in peace."

The prime minister told the administration to spare none.

"We don't need to account for political affiliation of criminals. A criminal has to be dealt with sternly."

Hasina made it clear to the administrative officials that she wanted them to work impartially.

"A criminal should be nabbed irrespective of his or her political ties. Let everyone know that is my order."
