Sherpur Additional Superintendent of Police Mohibul Islam Khan said Arshad Ali was arrested on Sunday night.

Ali, 55, testified in favour of the Jamaat acting secretary general in the tribunal, which awarded him capital punishment for crimes against humanity during the war.

The Supreme Court upheld the tribunal verdict on an appeal by Kamaruzzaman.

Pakistani military and their local accomplices had killed 120 males at Sohagpur village in Sherpur’s Nalitabarhi Upazila in 1971. Sohagpur has been dubbed ‘widows village’ since then.

ASP Islam said on Sunday night that Ali was being interrogated at the Sherpur Police Station.

Legal actions would be taken against him, he added.

Ali is the son of late Ekabbor Ali of Benuparha village under Nalitabarhi.
