Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Sunday said it would not allow Khaleda to hold the Dec 27 rally unless her son Tarique Rahman apologised.

Tarique has dubbed Bangladesh's founding father a 'Razakar', an illegal prime minister and his family a "curse for the country".

His own way of recounting events during and after the Liberation War has stirred much criticism from all quarters.

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) reacted to BCL's threat at a press conference on Monday.

JCD General Secretary Akramul Hasan said the BCL announcement had "stunned" the students.

"Such statements are funny," he said adding that the BNP’s student front would make all arrangements for the Gazipur rally.

Tarique, accused in a number of corruption cases, has been staying in London since 2008.

He claims he is "responding" to the ruling party's "propaganda".

JCD leader Hasan said, "The Chhatra League will have to learn from history how dangerous the consequences of its announcement to thwart rallies could be."
