President Abdul Hamid asks for more support from India in power sector

India will provide more support to Bangladesh in the power sector , President Md Abdul Hamid has hoped, as he thanked New Delhi for its help in developing the sector.

He met with External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the Indian capital on Friday.

The president's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim said after the meeting, the Indian minister assured Bangladesh of her country's continued support.

"The president has thanked her for India's support in Bangladesh's power sector. Additionally, he hopes for more support from India in the development of the sector."

"The Indian external affairs minister said her country had both the will and wish to do everything for the development of Bangladesh," Karim added.

Bangladesh is currently purchasing 500MW of power from India. Another 500MW is supposed to be added soon.

Sushma Swaraj toured Bangladesh in June.

President Hamid went to Delhi on Thursday on an invitation by India's President Pranab Mukherjee. He is scheduled to return on Dec 23.
