The House Committee of the 10th Parliament made the suggestion at a meeting on Thursday.

According to the committee, several of the MPs have been re-elected members to the 10th Parliament.

The committee has given the MPs until Jan 15 to vacate the flats at Manik Miah Avenue and Nakhalparha in capital Dhaka.

Committee chief ASM Feroz told reporters after the meeting: “Several MPs and ministers of the ninth Parliament have not yet vacated the flats despite repeated reminders. We have advised them to vacate the flats after paying the (due) rent.”

A Parliament Secretariat press release said ‘allotments of flats to MPs, ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers during ninth Parliament have been cancelled’ with the expiry of its term.

A committee member told reporters on condition of anonymity that Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan, Shamsur Rahman Sharif and Sayedul Haq were among the MPs still occupying flats allotted during the ninth Parliament.

The committee discussed security of the MP buildings and suggested giving identity cards to domestic helps and drivers of lawmakers.
