The authorities said the unclaimed body would be handed over for burial to Anjuman-e-Mafidul Islam, a charitable Islamic welfare organisation.

The victim, around 23, had been choked to death, said police.

The body, in salwar kameez, was found on a secluded road in Nikunja late on Dec 12 night.

"No one has looked for the woman in the last seven days. Although a murder case has been filed over the incident, police have not been able to identify any suspect so far," said Khilkhet Police Station OC Nazrul Islam.

Police believe the murderers left the body on the road after killing the woman somewhere nearby.

Dhaka Medical College Hospital officials said they would wait for a couple of days more. If nobody claimed the body by then, they would hand it over to Anjuman-e-Mafidul for burial.

"We have no other option. We have kept important information including photos, so relatives can identify the body if they come," said OC Nazrul.
