His lawyer moved the court Thursday seeking acquittal.

A special tribunal sentenced him to death on Nov 24 for war crimes committed during Bangladesh's Liberation War.

The 64-year-old had led the local collaborators in looting, kidnapping, torture and killings in 1971.

The post-war Jamaat-e-Islami activist later joined the Awami League in his locality.

He was expelled from the party in 2011.

Bangladesh's second war crimes tribunal sentenced him to death for killing 33 people at Akhaurha’s Tanmandail village.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for the abduction and murder of one Abdul Khalek.
