Several students were detained from Dhaka’s Press Club area.

Witnesses said the agitated students vandalised some cars in the area.

The students moved towards the Health Ministry as a part of their scheduled protest on Wednesday morning.

Shahbagh Police OC (investigation) Habil Hossain said trouble started when police tried to stop the students.

They were later dispersed with water cannons.

The students of Institute of Health Technology (Dental) have been holding protests for a while .

Prabal Bikash Rudro, a student of the movement, told bdnews24.com: “Our demonstration was peaceful and we wanted to present our charter of demands to the health minister. But the police disrupted everything.”

He claimed police had detained at least 10 students and have taken them to Shahbagh police station.

The protesters said if their demands were not met within Dec 23, they would hold a rally on Dec 24 at Shahbagh where they would announce a new plan for agitation.
