Classmate files case over death of Chittagong University student in Chhatra League factional clash

A case has been filed over the death of a student who died after being hit by a stray bullet during Sunday's clash at Chittagong University (CU).

The clash started after two factions of the ruling party's student front Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of CU unit-- VX and CFC--had paid respects to martyred intellectuals that morning.

Second-year Sanskrit department student Tapash Sarkar was standing in the porch of the Shah Amanat Hall when he hit by a bullet in the back.
Five others were also injured.

The CFC claimed he was their supporter.

CU Sanskrit department student Hafizul Islam filed the case around 2am on Tuesday at the Hathazari Police Station over the killing.

Hathazari police station OC Md Ismail Hossain told bdnews24.com that the case names 30 including CU unit BCL's defunct committee leader Ashrafuzzaman Asha, Rubel Dey, Shahrid Shubha, Farhad Hossain, Enamul Hossaun Ovi, Sohel Khan and Rashed Hasan.
The involvement of Another 15 to 20 unidentified people have been also been mentioned in the case.
The names of Asha, (Rashed) Hasan, (Rubel) Dey also figure in the case filed by the police in connection with the seizure of arms after the clash. They were among 28 detained following the incident.
Activists of the CFC group besieged the CU vice-chancellor on Monday, demanding the filing of a case over Sarkar's death.
But the university authorities are yet to lodge a complain with the police.
