Constable Nur-e Alam is the driver of an officer with the rank of an additional deputy inspector general.

Shahbagh police OC Sirajul Islam said Alam, along with Assistant Sub-Inspector Khalilur Rahman and police informant Mizanur Rahman, tried to snatch Tk 100,000 from in front of the High Court on Monday.

Md Liton, the victim, said he was on his way to Bongshal with his nephew when three men hit his bicycle.

"One of them cuffed me saying I was named in a case and forced me to sit on the bike," he said.

He had a bag containing Tk 76,500 and his nephew 'Sunny' had the rest with him.

Sunny said he was lying on the ground, groaning when one of the men took his bag and walked away.

He shouted for help when the trio was making off.

An elderly man stopped the bike as other pedestrians rushed there.

Two of them, Nur Alam and Mizanur Rahman, were initially taken to a nearby police shed.

They were later handed over to Shahbagh police as they behaved suspiciously.

Tk 76,000 was found on them.

During primary interrogation, they said ASI Khalil had run away with the money snatched from Sunny.

A case has been filed over the incident and police said they were trying to arrest Khalil.
