Bangladesh High Commission to celebrate Victory Day in New Delhi

The Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi will organise a cultural evening at its Chanakyapuri office in New Delhi to commemorate the 43rd anniversary of the nation’s victory in the 1971 war.

The cultural evening will have music, poetry and dance.

In an official message, Bangladesh High Commissioner Syed Muazzem Ali said 43 years before, the Pakistani occupation forces surrendered arms to the victorious joint command of the Mukti Bahini and the Indian armed forces.

“After a long-drawn final struggle for freedom led by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman… the cherished dream of liberty was finally achieved and Bengalis secured a place in the global map which they could finally call their own,” it said.

“For us this remains the day when we remember our martyrs and our men and women who lost everything… and were inhumanly abused but who never yielded to the dark marauding forces of evil...”
