Saudi Arabia has made possession of MRP mandatory for pilgrims, Religious Affairs Minister Motiur Rahman has said.

He said the government decided to allow registration without MRP as the Saudi Hajj management was done online.

While registering online, the applicants will have to choose the MRP option 'under process'.

But they will have to provide their MRP numbers when the final Hajj pilgrims’ list is submitted to Saudi Arabia, he said.

The Cabinet has approved two Hajj packages for this year.

The first package will cost Tk 354,745 per person for the annual pilgrimage while the second will cost Tk 296,206 per person.

Registrations will be open from Jan 21 to Feb 5 next year.

“Applicants will have to pay at least Tk 151,690 while registering. They can pay the rest by June 10," the minister said.

Altogether 101,758 pilgrims from Bangladesh will be allowed to perform Hajj this year.
