Narayanganj's Senior Judicial Magistrate KM Mohiuddin took the complaint into cognisance and ordered Rabbi to appear before the court on Jan 15.
Metropolitan Awami League unit General Secretary Khokan Saha filed the case on Sunday afternoon.
Saha told bdnews24.com he lodged it on behalf of Shamim's wife Lipi Osman over the 'indecent' comments Rabbi made about her on Friday.
Rabbi at a rally that day called Narayanganj-4 Awami League MP Shamim's family a 'family of killers'. He had also urged Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to not show favouritism towards that family.
Rabbi had formed Twaki Mancha, a platform against terrorism, after his slain son Tanvir Mohammad Twaki and been alleging that the Osman family was involved in Twaki's murder a year ago.
He also demanded immediate submission of the murder case's charge sheet.
Rabbi on Friday alleged that Shamim Osman had verbally abused two senior lawyers of Narayanganj following an explosion at the District and Sessions Judges Court building on Thursday.
"He (Shamim) used obscene words and called them sons of Razakars. But he is married to a person whose father was a Razakar," Rabbi said.
He further said, "Being married to a Razakar's daughter, it doesn't suit him to call others Razakar. He should have left her for this."
