The incident took place on Thursday noon at Raghbendupur village under Idilpu Union.

Locals claim Dhaperhat police investigation centre's Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Shahjahan Ali raised hands on a girl during a brawl.

Dhaperhat police later rescued the ASI and gave him first aid.

Idilpur Union Parishad's member Nur Mohammad said local residents Mostafizur Rahman Lelin and Yasin Ali had been at loggerheads over a piece of land.

Lelin recently lodged a written complaint with police over harvesting crops on the disputed land.

ASI Ali went to Yasin Ali's house to investigate the allegation on Thursday.
A brawl broke out between Rahman and Ali in his presence.
ASI Ali slapped Yasin after the latter vandalised the plaintiff's kitchen.
At that time daughter and wife of the accused asked police why he was being detained.
The police officer apparently lost his temper and slapped Yasin Ali's daughter, said the UP member.
"It infuriated locals who thrashed him and did not allow him to leave the place for around an hour until he was rescued," Nur Mohammad added.
