At the meeting of Awami League's Central Working Committee on Friday, the party chief said many people had been coming up with many theories on many possibilities.

"There is no point in following those. I understand only one theory and that is to provide enough food for Bangladesh's people, houses for the homeless, jobs for the unemployed, improve the health services and ensure a better life for them."

"We work on only this theory and want to implement it," she said during the meeting at Ganabhaban.

Without taking name, the Awami League president said, "We know who is giving what theory."

"The caretaker theory failed . We don't want to (fail) too by following that theory."

Highlighting the government's successes in achieving several development goals, Hasina said, "Only Bengalees can overcome any tough situation."

"The country became independent under Awami League's leadership. That's why people always get something when Awami League comes to power."

Prices had dropped due to rise in employment, she said, adding that the inflation rate had come down to 6.6 percent due to her government's efficient economic management.

"The general people are getting the benefits from that."

Hasina said, "We were in power for (past) five years. We did socio-economic development of the country. We have achieved more than what many countries have in the world, including the South Asian ones."

She spoke of her government's success in maintaining GDP growth over 6 percent and reaching the $1,190 mark in per capita income.

She referred to the poverty rate dropping to 24.4 percent and said, "We will cut poverty below 10 percent in the next five years."

She said the government had taken many initiatives to strengthen the rural economy and no past government were successful like her government in creating jobs.

The prime minister added that 5,275 Union Information Services Centres would be made digital along with 8000 post offices in phases.
