AKM Muzammel Hoque's announcement came on Tuesday at the inaugural function of a 21-day-long 'Bijoy Mela' – a fair celebrating Bangladesh's independence – at Chandpur's Faridganj Upazila.

"Many freedom fighters have sacrificed their lives during the War of Independence. No Janazas were held even for one percent of them.

"Animals ate their decomposing corpses. That's why no more Janazas of war criminals after his execution will be allowed in Dhaka."

Hoque said, "Today matters such as humanity and religion are brought up (in war criminals’ defence). Why didn't our fellow Muslims get their Janazas in 1971?

“Let that question be answered first. Then we'll consider theirs,” the minister concluded.
