Court orders fresh autopsy on actress Lopa

A Dhaka court has ordered a fresh autopsy after exhuming the remains from the grave of model-actress Nayar Sultana Lopa.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Bikash Kumar Saha gave the orders Wednesday, a day after he passed similar orders for a new postmortem examination on the body of Dr Shamarukh Mahjabin Shama.

Lopa, 35, was famous for her child role ‘Tuni’ in Humayun Ahmed’s popular television serial 'Ei Shob Dinratri'.

Her mother Razia Sultana alleged Lopa was murdered after the actress was found hanging at her in-law's Gulshan house on Oct 16.

Razia also filed a case against her son-in-law Ali Amin and both his father and mother.

She had moved the court for a re-autopsy after Lopa's death was described as 'suicide' in the autopsy report.

The court granted her appeal and ordered the deputy commissioner of Dhaka to arrange for exhuming the body to discover the cause of death, Court Police Registrar Farid Mia said.

He told bdnews24.com: "The court has ordered formation of a three-member committee, led by the principal of Sir Salimullah Medical College, and also putting an executive magistrate on it."

Lopa's husband Ali Amin, who was arrested on Oct 16 after the case was lodged, claimed his wife committed suicide following a dispute over the ownership of a flat at Gulshan. He also claimed he was not in the house at that time.

However, Razia Sultana in the case details described Amin as a 'drug addict'.

It said he tortured Lopa physically every day and his parents did not stop him.

The case details allege that the trio strangled Lopa on Oct 16 afternoon and tried to pass her death as suicide by hanging her body from the ceiling fan.

Police's inquest report had mentioned that there were wound marks on Lopa's throat and left wrist.

Later on Nov 16, the initial autopsy report said the actress had committed 'suicide'.
