DMP Additional Commissioner (AC) Mili Biswas said two mobile courts started to function on the stretch of street from Farmgate police box to Ruposhi Bangla hotel from Tuesday.

“A few hundred pedestrians have been fined,” the police official told bdnews24.com.

For the last three days, Dhaka police have run a mass awareness campaign before the mobile court started functioning on Tuesday.

The mobile court will operate for the next seven days, said AC Biswas.

Deputy Police Commissioner (traffic) Khan Mohammad Rezwan told bdnew24.com: ”Until 12pm, more than 300 pedestrians have been fined at the Bangla Motor intersection. Those who could not pay the fine were detained for six hours.”

The penalty for crossing streets without using foot-over bridges or underpasses or zebra crossings is six-month imprisonment or Tk 200 in fine, DMP Commissioner Benajir Ahmed told a media briefing on Saturday.
