Hassan Mahmood Khandker was speaking during a passing-out parade at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Rajshahi’s Sarda on Saturday.

“We’re looking into all possible motives behind his murder. There has been some progress in the investigation, but that cannot be revealed for the sake of the ongoing probe.”

He assured that police would soon unearth why the sociology teacher was killed.

Shafiul died last Saturday after he was hacked fatally by attackers just outside the Rajshahi University campus.

Replying to questions from reporters he said, “Police sometimes find clues immediately, but in some cases it takes time. But it is possible to solve a case even if it is delayed. There is no doubt about that.”

A nascent outfit ‘Ansar al Islam-2’ had claimed responsibility for killing the teacher, in a facebook page opened just few hours after the attack.

The victim’s son, a journalism student at Dhaka University, has been saying his father was killed by Islamist militants for his beliefs.

Two days later after the arrest of dozen suspects, the government transferred Rajshahi police commissioner.

Alamgir Hossain, OC of Motihar police, where the murder case was filed, said they acquired information about a possible militant-link to the killing.

After taking the eleven into remand, police have moved the court on Friday seeking another seven days to further interrogate them.

“Police have been thoroughly investigating the case with full professionalism,” said Khandker.
