The victim, identified as Ashraf Ali, 36, a resident of the Upazila’s Bilshalia area, was stabbed to death.
Police said several cases of robbery were pending against the man, who was known as in the area as ‘Ashraf Dakat’.
Lalpur Police Station OC Abdul Hai Talukder said the locals spotted the body in a paddy field on Thursday morning and informed the police.
“Preliminary investigations revealed he was an Awami League activist. He had a running feud over a plot of land with neighbours Abu Bakar and Siddique. The initial suspicion is this may have been the cause of his murder,” OC Abdul Hai told bdnews24.com.
Ashraf’s relatives said he had been called away from his home around 8:30pm by someone and his body was found in the paddy field next morning.
Ashraf’s hands and legs were broken, while his head bore injury marks inflicted by sharp weapons.
The body has been sent to the Natore Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
The Upazila’s Awami League General Secretary Ishak Ali confirmed that Ashraf was their supporter.
