The arrestee, Jahangir Alam, works in the Protection and Protocol Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

RAB officials said Alam withdrew Tk 150,000 from former Army sergeant Abdul Mannan's bank account after abducting him.

Alam was arrested from in front of Orchard Plaza in Dhaka's Dhanmondi Saturday noon, RAB-2 official ASP Yasir Arafat told bdnews24.com.
He said Alam and his three accomplices whisked Mannan away from his Banani residence on Nov 6.
They later managed to get their hands on Mannan's chequebooks from the former army official's home. "They made Mannan sign blank cheques and withdrew Tk 150,000 from one of his bank accounts."
During interrogation, constable Alam claimed that one of his accomplices was a sacked Special Branch (SB) official named 'Kabir'. Another was a policeman too.
But RAB is yet to arrest Alam’s accomplices.
Arafat said Alam claimed that he was helping a woman to whom Mannan owed Tk 6.5 million. He said Mannan was not returning the money he owed.
"Alam has claimed that they abducted Mannan to collect the money from his bank accounts," the RAB official said.
RAB had interrogated Alam after arresting him at noon. They handed him over at Dhanmondi Police Station Saturday night.
